Meet the RBIS Teachers Mr. Tomkins Year 1

November 20, 2020

Hello Parents!

My name is Mr. Phil Tomkins and I am very happy to have the job of teaching Year 1 here at RBIS Bangkok. I’m from the U.K. and have been a qualified teacher for many years with experience in England, Greece, Norway, Netherlands and here in Thailand.

As a specialist Primary School teacher I also bring to my classroom plenty of qualifications, training and experience in Special Educational Needs (SENs) as well as Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I am fully aware that each of my students will have varying levels of English, so I ensure my lessons and teaching methods reflect these differing needs and all children have equal access to the teaching and learning in Year 1.

I strongly believe that children learn best when they feel safe and happy so my classroom environment and teaching methods reflect this ethos. A vital part of this is to make good relationships with parents and having good lines of communication so the children can see we are all working together as a team to support their learning development – so I look forward to getting to know you better!

My approach to teaching is very child-centred. I treat each child as an individual, respecting their different starting points and abilities. I work hard to ensure that all children have equal opportunities to learn and develop in my class.

I am also aware that all children have different enthusiasms and interests. Some children will love to dance, others love dinosaurs, others love books, computers…the list is endless! So I try to involve as many of the children’s enthusiasms as possible in our activities.

Year 1 is a happy place, with happy children who feel safe, respected and valued…we are ready to start learning now!
