The Role of Parents and Carers

Parents are valued as first educators and we aim to build a positive relationship between home and
school to give children the best education. We recognise the role that parents have played through the
        following:
            • Opportunities are available for dialogue with parents such as talking to parents before their child

               starts school.
            • Children and Parents have the opportunity to visit for a ‘stay and play’ session in the Foundation
Stage setting prior to the child starting school.
            • Parents are invited to an induction meeting during the term before their child starts school, given
comprehensive information about Reception procedures and invited to attend a ‘Meet the

Teacher’ Meeting in the Autumn term.
            • Parents are welcomed into the school to talk to staff on a daily basis.
            • Parents are offered regular opportunities to talk about their child’s progress in our Nursery and
Reception classes and they are encouraged to talk to the child’s teacher if there are any concerns.
There is a formal meeting for parents in Term 2 at which the teacher and the parent discuss the
child’s progress and development in private. Parents receive a report on their child’s attainment
and progress in Terms 1 and 3 of each school year.

            • Children are given an opportunity to spend induction sessions in the setting.
            • Parents are invited to share whole school events such as the school winter performance, the
               summer performance and Sports Day.
            • Parents are informed of current themes and learning opportunities via newsletters and
               information sheets.
            • Parents are invited to join the Friends of School and are offered a range of activities and events

that support the involvement of parents.
            • Parent helpers are valued and encouraged to support classes throughout the school.
            • There is regular communication with home through the child’s home-school book and an ‘open
               door’ policy.

NB This list is not exclusive and the term ‘parents’ includes carers
