To commemorate World Poetry Day on March 21st our students studied, read and wrote their own Haiku poetry. The Haiku style of poetry bridges the gap between English and Asian cultures and with International Day on the horizon it also allows our students to be reflective and contemplative of the nature and community around them - and of course around the world!
The staff were overwhelmed by the sheer breadth and depth of empowering responses and had the honour of selecting and voting for poetry submissions in three categories. The winners - who receive book voucher prizes and certificates - are as follows:
EAL and SEN - 1st: Plawaln 2nd: Zaizi 3rd: Kaopun
Key Stage 3 - 1st: Pookie 2nd: Pias 3rd: Haila
Key Stage 4/5 - 1st: Bianca 2nd: Jenny joint 3rd: Win and Pin Pin
Overall, the contest was an outstanding success and our English Department would like to thank EVERYONE for taking part in this fantastic 'community arts' event.
