IELTS preparation at RBIS

Every Saturday

Time: 9.00 A.M. - 12.00 P.M.

What is IELTS? Do I need it?

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an exam that assesses students’ level of English and readiness for university studies in English. It is a requirement from universities in English-speaking countries, as well as some universities in Thailand. The test can be challenging, even for native English speakers, so it’s important that test takers are familiar with the test format and know what is expected, in order to get the highest score possible.

Why take an IELTS preparation course?

Our IELTS preparation course aims to give students a clear understanding of every part of the IELTS test, as well as equip students with the exam skills needed to approach the test with confidence. Given that university students usually need IELTS 6.0 or 6.5 for an undergraduate course, the IELTS preparation course will also cover the type of language use (grammar and vocabulary) that test takers need to demonstrate in order to obtain a higher score.

After a course with us, students will be able to access a wider range of tools to approach each part of the IELTS test confidently. Students will know how to organize their thoughts before writing them down coherently or communicating them orally during the speaking interview in a way that addresses every part of the questions they need to provide an answer to.

Come to join our STEM week (25-28 October). You can arrange the day and time that you like to visit. This is an excellent opportunity to see how we teach STEM.

A visit will allow you to see the school in action and meet our staff and students. The student will also be able to discuss career guidance and university destination. Our headteacher will also be there for parents who want to discuss the scholarship opportunity.

WHAT IS STEM?

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education is all about preparing future generations to be successful in life.

The skills gained from STEM education are not only valuable to students interested in pursuing STEM careers but also allow those with varied interests who move into any industry to have the necessary and valuable skills needed for their careers.

At RBIS, we develop students’ STEM skills and allow students to stay ahead of the game by fostering genuine curiosity to learn. We challenge the perception that “STEM isn’t for everyone” and give students meaningful insight into possible STEM careers and fields they may pursue in future.

The vast and rapidly developing field of STEM is diverse and ever-changing, and we take our responsibility of preparing the future STEM leaders of the world very seriously.

The international education world in the ‘new normal’ of COVID-19 is a complex and difficult place for students and families to manage.

For the many students who routinely travel to other countries for first language English schooling, the extended reality of travel-bans and quarantine requirements raise the painful prospect of a loss of learning that cannot be replicated virtually.

It remains an unclear situation how overseas schools are reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic, the restrictions they will have to operate under, and if schools will be allowed to remain open as future waves of infection sweep around the globe.

No matter how careful the plans, schools may have to close again – as abruptly happened in Beijing this month following a new outbreak of the coronavirus.

Added to onsite considerations, for many students around the world getting to and from school is the most dangerous part of the day, as students face travel crowds with very little social distancing arrangements. This is the part of the day where there is the biggest chance of getting infected.

It is the most natural thing in the world that parents will be really concerned and want their children home in a time of pandemic. Travelling is difficult, and even if you could travel, travelling is not very safe,

Many students and their families have taken positive and proactive choices to continue education at international schools closer to the safety of home, buying in to services that are compatible to their learning and examination programs overseas. These students are determined they will not be a lost generation.

One of the first choices for these families are schools such as RBIS Bangkok.

In keeping with the educational experiences and programs that students have accessed overseas, the school delivers a balanced curriculum and teaching that equips students with the skills and qualifications to enter, or re-enter the British education system at school, college or University level. Added to this, students benefit from a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities and strong academic counselling and welfare support for well-being during this time of challenge.

Give yourself the certainty of a quality education that prepares your family for the challenges and opportunities of the new world we all face.

1. Pre-IGCSE examination preparation programmes (14 years of age)

2. IGCSE examination studies (15 and 16 years of age)

3. Advanced ‘A’ level and BTEC Studies Programmes (17 and 18 years of age)

Talk to our Academic Counselling Team and Examination Officers to match your existing studies to the opportunities offered here.

Talk to our Finance Team to explore the opportunities of short- and

medium-term financial arrangements, as the world settles to the new normal of life coexisting with COVID.

Talk to our Admissions Team to discover the advantages of a British and international education here at home in the safety of Bangkok, and the flexibility on offer at RBIS.

In an uncertain world, give yourself the certainty of immediate access to educational systems and standards that you already know and appreciate, and that are known and appreciated by others all over the world.

A system designed to meet the needs of your child as they grow and develop

As a young adolescent (9 -14 years old) your child will grow and change physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially at a rate greater than at any other time in their lives, except from birth to age three.

To understand what pupils in their middle years need in order to be successful learners, we have to understand the key characteristics of young adolescents.

As generations of parents and teachers experience these include:

  • Rapid and uneven physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth and development.
  • Increasing self-consciousness, uncertainty, and self-doubt.
  • Intense curiosity and a wide range of intellectual pursuits, few of which are sustained.
  • A need to belong and contribute, which will take unhealthy forms if they can’t find healthy ways to fulfil this.
  • A need to feel respected, especially when they are being guided to make appropriate choices.
  • A preference to interact with peers during learning activities.
  • A preference for active over passive learning experiences. A strong sense of justice and an alertness to anything perceived as unfair.

Throughout their schooling, children and young people need to feel safe, both physically and emotionally, before they can begin to develop intellectually.

An RBIS Middle School education provides a school climate that nurtures and supports young people at a time when they need it most.

Our effective practices in creating an excellent Middle School learning community include:

  • Being child-centred and generally small enough for everyone to be known personally.
  • Providing a curriculum which is balanced between the subject-centred and pupil-centred needs of the young adolescent, promoting self-esteem and self-knowledge and developing a foundation for life-long learning.
  • As a Middle School we occupy the formative central ground in the education process and are uniquely placed with opportunities for creative flexibility of organisation to meet the needs of students through a time of considerable and wide ranging intellectual, physical and emotional development. The unique mix of subject specialist teaching and close teacher-child relationships can give the security, stability and challenge that is critical for the growing self-confidence of the young adult.

What can a young learner expect from an RBIS Middle School education?

  • High expectations for learning, achievement, and personal development
  • Engaging learning
  • Independence encouraged in a structured, protective environment
  • Learning related to their world and issues important to their age group
  • A variety of learning styles and teaching methods; e.g hands-on, experiential lessons that enhance pupil engagement
  • Regular feedback
  • Respectful, supportive relationships valued and promoted
  • Challenges to foster higher-order thinking skills

What can a parent/guardian expect from the RBIS Middle School?

  • A system matched to the developmental needs of children, fit for the 21st C.
  • A nurturing environment which enables children to develop as happy, confident, and resilient individuals
  • A wealth of opportunities both within the curriculum and extra-curricular
  • Children to make good progress
  • Regular communication with school and supportive relationships

Pupil needs for autonomy, career and identity exploration provided in a safe environment that is mediated by understanding adults

What advantages does the RBIS Middle School system offer?

The advantage of a traditional three-tier system, with its two points of transfer, is that our school is better able to focus on the needs of children at different stages of their education.

The RBIS Middle School supports a form of schooling ideally matched to the developmental needs of children; one which caters for about three age groups and can be better focused on the needs of pupils at each stage of their education and organised appropriately.

Rather than the abrupt change at the age of 11 experienced by many children, our middle schools offers what we might think of as a ‘bridge’ between two different kinds of schooling – one in which our students experience a carefully managed and smooth change from a degree of generalist teaching on entry to middle school to more discretely specialised teaching in the final year.

Building on the nurture and development in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Primary School sections, middle school pupils benefit from the advantages of a relatively small and secure environment, where they are well known; this enables their intellectual and emotional needs to be met within secure and clearly defined boundaries and for individuals to thrive and develop.

The middle school retains a guarantee of a broad and balanced curriculum in the timetable and access to specialist teachers and specialist facilities on offer, with the specialist rooming and equipment for art, technology and science.

Pupils arrive at their upper school keen and eager for success at a time when traditionally, disaffection and disenchantment begin to affect secondary schools in the two-tier system.

Analysis of GCSE data over the last four years shows that students in three tier schools achieve outcomes at age 16 which are above the UK national average.

Above all the middle school provides wider opportunities for young adolescents within what is still a relatively small institution. This enables their intellectual and emotional needs to be met within secure and clearly defined boundaries.

RBIS Middle School – an advantage we are proud to deliver.
