At RBIS, we know how important the first year of school is for you and your child. The Early Years team aims to make that transition from home to school as smooth as possible by creating a caring and happy environment for your child to grow and develop, not only academically, but also emotionally.
Our 2 - 4 year olds learn through well-planned and unstructured play with opportunities to explore in both the classroom and outdoor play areas, developing independent skills whilst accessing free flow provision, as well as starting some more gently structured activities to help ease their transition into the Reception Class.
The EYFS teachers and staff are well-qualified and experienced and the staff: pupil ratio is very generous, enabling us to offer teaching, supervision and care of the highest quality.
The daily routine will vary slightly according to the age of your child and which stage they are at, but the majority of the day will be structured the same, with learning opportunities interspersed by regular meals and set times for snacks, morning and afternoon, and an early afternoon supervised rest period.
As an all-through school, children can join RBIS from Nursery age and continue right through until the end of Senior school. We provide a cohesive, consistent approach to our pastoral care, nurturing and education of children, making transition points smooth for all concerned, particularly the children. Having been really well prepared in the EYFS classes the children move seamlessly into the RBIS Reception class.
Once children enter the international sector, it is rare that parents wish them to return to a more local provision. This is due to our success in putting your child at the heart of all we do and ensuring that every opportunity is afforded to them.
In the Reception Class, the children continue the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum begun in the Nursery and Pre-Reception learning areas. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of the basic skills of numeracy and literacy in the context of a broad curriculum which encourages creativity and personal development. There are extensive opportunities for practical learning experiences. The children are taught on the whole by their class teachers, but there is some specialist teaching in Thai language and culture, Music, Physical Education and Swimming.
The children are taught by well-qualified staff, who care for them as individuals and aim to meet their needs, so they can develop their full potential. The staff aim to give every child a first-class start to their education through the opportunity to learn in a happy, relaxed atmosphere which encourages the development of confidence in all aspects of school life.
Most of the children who join the Reception Class move into it from the RBIS Early Years Foundation Stage classes, but children are also welcomed from elsewhere from the September following their fourth birthday.

The word ‘curriculum’ is used to describe all of the learning experiences that children have in the school setting. We follow the British Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum as detailed below. This framework promotes learning through play ensuring high standards of early education and care by supporting and fostering the children’s personal, social and emotional wellbeing. It covers seven Areas of Learning, which include:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Involves helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behaviour in groups; and to have confidence in their own abilities.
Communication and Language: Involves giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.
Physical development: Involves providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control, and movement. Children must also be helped to understand the importance of physical activity, and to make healthy choices in relation to food.
Literacy: Involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest.
Mathematics: Involves providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces, and measure.
Understanding the world: Involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
Expressive arts and design: Involves enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology.

Assessment
Assessment plays an important part in helping parents, carers and teachers to recognise children’s progress and understanding their needs. At RBIS Early Years, teachers observe children to understand their interests and learning styles, and then shape learning experiences for each child. We use an assessment tool called Tapestry.
Tapestry is a secure online Learning Journal to record photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, to build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time with us. This system allows us to work with parents and carers to share information and record the children’s play and learning in and outside of the classroom.
To install Tapestry on your phone, search for the Tapestry Online Journal app and download.
