Primary - Overview - RBIS

Welcome to RBIS Primary. It is my great pleasure to introduce you to all we have to offer here at RBIS Primary.

RBIS Primary School is a unique and special community school which puts learning at the very heart of everything we do and achieve.  The school's philosophy to care for the individual and prepare children for a global future is reflected in our outstanding teaching and learning across the curriculum, developing the whole child through a holistic and nurturing environment. Our commitment is to help students become well-balanced, happy and interesting people and this is clear to see when spending time on the Primary Campus, where enjoyment is echoed around the vibrant school.

At RBIS we encourage our students to be independent thinkers and to take responsibility for their lifelong learning process so that they may grow into mature global citizens, equipped to tackle any challenges that they may encounter in the future.  The small class sizes allow teachers to work closely with each student to assess their strengths and weaknesses so that lessons can be created to accommodate the needs of all students.

We teach the English National Curriculum, in line with current UK guidelines. Assessment is an on-going process involving giving feedback to students. Teachers are aware of each student’s ability and progress; they are continually appraising them as they teach and interact with each student. Regular formative assessment also tracks student progress to ensure all children achieve their full potential. Assessment is also used to inform future planning, to ascertain the levels at which students are working and to report to students, parents, and teachers. It is based upon the maintenance of accurate and appropriate records of what individual students have demonstrated and achieved, creating personalised learning. Reporting to parents and carers is done through parent meetings and written reports throughout the year.

RBIS Primary offers a great range of quality extra-curricular activities, giving our students the opportunity to pursue their personal interests and talents. We also pride ourselves on the excellent pastoral care given to support students throughout their time in the primary school, maintaining a focus on well-being and positivity, as they start to prepare for their secondary education and beyond.

We truly value the cultural diversity of RBIS students and ensure the curriculum offers the opportunity to celebrate, understand and reflect upon the importance of internationalism. We celebrate a range of different religious and cultural festivals, Anti-bullying weeks, International Day and Academic Open Day and our wider school community, external visitors and school trips play an integral part in supporting these opportunities and making them exceptional learning experiences for us all.

We are proud of the close relationships we develop between home and school as we work together with our parents to ensure our students are able to make the best possible progress according to their unique abilities. We value these relationships and are always looking for ways to strengthen them, so encourage all our community to regularly come in and talk to us about students’ learning, their wellbeing and general development to ensure that every child in our school community has the opportunity to flourish.

We hope the following pages give you an insight into our happy and exciting learning community.

About me

I graduated from Keele University, UK, with a degree in Biology and Mathematics and then continued on to study towards my PGCE. After graduating I worked at a school in the UK teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics. This gave me an opportunity to teach a wide range of scientific topics at different levels.

Why you I like to work at RBIS

Since working at RBIS, I have had the opportunity to develop my Physics and Mathematics teaching to students at iGCSE and A-Level. Students at RBIS are so polite and hardworking and they are a pleasure to teach.

More about Mr Brougham

" As some of you may know, I am a keen sportsman. As a student at school and university I competed for many teams in Fencing, Badminton, Atheltics and Squash. Fencing however, is my primary sport. I have been fortunate enough to compete for the Great Britain U17, U20, Student and Senior teams at international tournaments around the world. Fencing taught me a lot growing up, it taught me how to win graciously, lose with dignity and most of all, how to work hard towards a goal. Whilst at RBIS, I am excited to be able to help students achieve their goals both inside and outside of school."
