English as Additional Language Programme (EAL)

The EAL support we provide is intended to help students make the rapid progress needed when their level of English is below that expected of their age. This is to ensure they get full benefit from their lessons and make the progress needed to succeed in school. As a high quality, accredited school we have a commitment and responsibility to ensure all our students receive the correct levels of support so that they make the right amount of progress throughout their time with us.

This additional support involves pupils working with an EAL specialist teacher who:

  • Support them in class
  • Teaches student in very small groups for special literacy lessons
  • Teaches one hour lessons after school on 2 days per week
  • Teaches extra hours on Saturday morning

About me

I graduated from Keele University, UK, with a degree in Biology and Mathematics and then continued on to study towards my PGCE. After graduating I worked at a school in the UK teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics. This gave me an opportunity to teach a wide range of scientific topics at different levels.

Why you I like to work at RBIS

Since working at RBIS, I have had the opportunity to develop my Physics and Mathematics teaching to students at iGCSE and A-Level. Students at RBIS are so polite and hardworking and they are a pleasure to teach.

More about Mr Brougham

" As some of you may know, I am a keen sportsman. As a student at school and university I competed for many teams in Fencing, Badminton, Atheltics and Squash. Fencing however, is my primary sport. I have been fortunate enough to compete for the Great Britain U17, U20, Student and Senior teams at international tournaments around the world. Fencing taught me a lot growing up, it taught me how to win graciously, lose with dignity and most of all, how to work hard towards a goal. Whilst at RBIS, I am excited to be able to help students achieve their goals both inside and outside of school."
